When Old Containers BreakSometimes, it feels like the ground is shifting beneath our feet. Lies are being revealed, and old containers—beliefs, systems, relationships, rules of engagement—can no longer hold what is true. A portion of humanity clings tightly to what was. Another portion envisions a world where the sacredness of all life is honored, where collaboration and creative
expression become our new currency. We are all in a transition zoneWhere do you find yourself standing? Is there any solid place to set your feet? I’ve noticed, in myself and others, that the urge to retreat into the familiar is strong when things fall apart. But here’s another invitation: soften, listen, and allow truth to break you open in new ways. This is the heart’s work. This is the work of waking up. Thrive in the whirlI don't know how I feel about
something until I write about it. I call it micro writing. I write about my confusion, my despair, and my dreams for a better world. I jot down my intentions to revisit some tiny inspiration before it slips away in the wind of daily distractions. I get still and silent and wait for my words to insist themselves out of my pen and onto a page. I try my best to get out of my own way. That's a lifetime's practice. It is a reflection that requires a long, loving look at the essence of what wants to
be known. Some may think it frivolous, or perhaps courageous, to write about one's own truth, and yet, it doesn't feel that way to me. It feels essential, raw and gooey, like a cracked egg. Writing about emotions and sensations may mimic the process of whisking eggs, which leads to coagulation, giving structure to baked goods. Perhaps micro-writing provides some internal structure to thrive in the whirl. Find Coherency: Start a conversation with your higher selfIt’s tempting to react
from habit when the world feels chaotic. But what if we could respond from a place of coherence—where heart, mind, and body are in conversation? This is not about perfection or bypassing pain. It’s about pausing, softening, and choosing compassion for yourself and others. It’s about recognizing when your nervous system is activated and using micro practices to return to center. - Heart + Brain Coherence: Place your hand on your heart, notice your
breath, and invite gratitude for a simple something. Just thirty seconds can shift your state. Repeated often, that state becomes a trait.
- Creative Micro-Writes: Copy a quote, jot down a phrase that sounds pleasing to your ears, sing that meaningful song lyric as you write it, or draw in color as your hands move and your eyes watch.
- Connect With A Difficulty: Once you've created some heart + brain coherence, watch your body's sensations as you
reflect on a difficulty, then let your pen express what you notice. Stay connected to your breathing and recognize that whatever arises from inside just wants to be known. Instead of suppressing difficulty, we let it have its expression, on paper, where we can see it in the light rather than exiling it into the shadow of the unconscious.
These tiny writing sprints ripple out. They help us choose effective responses instead of old reactions. They remind us that we
all want to be happy, healthy, and free from the burdens of suffering. Starting a Journaling Practice: Simple Ways- Micro write for five minutes. Write whatever comes, even if it’s “I don’t know what to write and I'm aware of.....” Let your pen keep moving.
- Try a prompt: “What truth is surfacing for me right now?” or “What do I know about myself now without knowing how I know it?”
- Notice body
sensations. My body feels (fill in the blank) as I reflect on (fill in the blank). Use descriptive words—tense, light, restless, soft. Let your body’s sensations be the wisdom that guides your words.
- Release judgment. There’s no right or wrong way to journal. Let your writing be messy, challenging, supportive, and intimately honest.
