Using Your Intuition
Intuition is the ability to
understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
How do I discern intuition from mind chatter?
Slow down, and tune in to your subtle energy. Pause, become still and silent. Take time to follow your out-breaths until they lengthen a little more with each subsequent release. Notice the fluid nature of everything. Imagine you are riding a gentle wave.
Loosen any tendency to think it through, just feel. Place your hands over your heart or belly. Get as simple as you
can. Permit yourself to not know anything; just be.
Ask your heartfelt question while slipping out of your own way. Release any expectations around the answer you prefer. (this part takes practice!)
Intuition is nudging you if your answer is:
- Concise (doesn't go on and on in a narrative)
- Quiet (not the loudest voice in your head)
- Intimate (personal for you at this moment)
- Clear (direct, not
wishy-washy)
- Your vibe (presents the answer in the way you receive it best, i.e. through your body, ears, vision, or inner knowing)
- Consistent (if you ask the same question multiple times over days or weeks, the answer remains steady)
Mind chatter and fear-based projections are probably
influencing you if your answer
- Includes a story that goes on and on
- Is loud and overbearing
- Feels manipulative, stressful or tense
- Is unclear
- Sounds/feels like someone judging you
- Is inconsistent
Most importantly, intuition works best when we consistently
take breaks, listen with an open mind and heart, trust the feeling that arises, and courageously follow that feeling.
Allow intuition to guide your life.
It is an inner sense that is always accessible to help you feel what is right and true.
Practice with small decisions and notice the outcome.
Can you recall a time when you received strong intuition and did not follow it? What was the outcome?
Can you recall a time when you received strong intuition and followed it, even if it didn't make logical sense? What was the outcome?
