Hi ,
Â
Happy Holidays. The song says it is the most wonderful time of the year. Maybe not. Especially if you are emerging from trauma (aren't we all?)Â
Â
I've created a little gift for you. A little bit of happy for your holidays. A body scan meditation focused on pleasant sensations.
Â
It is about getting better at feeling good and safe in your body. Did you know your trauma is not just a memory of an overwhelming event or many events? It's in your nervous system, muscles and organs. It's in your body. It's there to protect you and it takes its job seriously to the point that it can get overprotective.Â
Â
Our issues are in our tissues.
Â
It is not enough to talk about what happened, we must include our body in trauma healing. Somatic meditation can be one of the first steps to reclaiming a sense of ease inside and begin to heal. We combine body awareness with the psychotherapeutic process when we pay attention to the felt experience of pleasantness on the inside.
Â
The intention is not so much about feeling better. It's about getting better at feeling. It is preferable to tune into pleasant or neutral sensations versus painful ones.
Â
We get better at feeling which leads to feeling better!
- It connects us to our body
- It orients us to the present moment
- It promotes self mastery by titrating the experience to your "window of tolerance"
- Cultivates a tolerance for pleasantness
- Offers choice, compassion and gentleness
- Encourages curiosity, creativity and connectedness
Give yourself the gift of self-care this season with this delightfully pleasant 14-minute relaxation meditation.Â
